The thermoforming technology originates from Finland and consists of treating the wood with high temperatures (200-240 °C) surrounded by steam. As a result of this process, sugar molecules in the wood break down, making the wood resistant to water, mould and deformation. A characteristic delicate smoky smell also appears. In addition to cutting boards, termed ash is also used to make decking or facade boards.
